Lunch is considered the biggest/proper meal of the day in Italy, as I have already mentioned, a cup of coffee and a bun is all you get as breakfast in Italy (However, this is stereotypical and mythical as I have mentioned in the same write-up, I'm going to still use the myth to boost my biggest meal theory). Most of my Italian colleagues preferred to eat outside, this makes me believe that Italians has a strong culture of eating lunch outside. So many restaurants in such a small town of Biella adds substance to my theory.
We have a small canteen and also on/off lunch only food truck inside our office, in-spite of this there are 6 restaurants within walking distance from our entrance, serving Japanese sushi, Mexican empanadas, Substandard grab and go pizza. And my favourite La Locanda (fondly known to us as Thatha Kadai)- the pasta land that I love 😋 and the old man's warm welcome will be with me for life. These are mostly for people who walk or use public transport when I go out with my team they take me to best eateries located near malls and public hubs.
I have eaten lunch outside so many times and I like to discuss food in detail, and so I'm not going to limit to one post. I'm going to write on lunch in 5 categories, pasta, sandwich/salad, other cuisines, take away and self-cooked food that I will tag under #cooking in Italy section - will take at least 3 months to come to cooking in Italy.
To honour the tradition of adding at least a photo to post, here is one that comes with standard table setting in Italian restaurants. Cheese to sprinkle and bread to finish the sauce, the sparkling water is part of our order and not table setting. In Italy, Chef's take is personal when the plate is not empty and they expect every customer to finish the dish and wipe the sauce clean with bread. Yes, I'm that irritating person in the group; testing the authenticity of Italian cuisine and lecturing friends on how to eat the dish; and yes I might eat pizza with fork and knife, deal with it!
The price of full portion only main course lunch was around 10 euro, there were also comno food that will include soup, main course and desert for just 12 euro. Whenever we got to tourist destination the prices seemed to inflate, so we'd grab some tomato mozeralla cheese sandwich for 5 or 6 euro and go about wandering the city. It was so strange, even in airport the price was 6 euro, usually price is inflated in airport. If you are a tourist and you want some tip, the best tip that I can give is ask the host, the one standing outside hotel trying to get you in mostly the one only understands English, so before getting your own menu browse the menu board and look for price and then get settled for a lovely lunch, buon appetito.
