Early morning 8 am I woke up relaxed washed my face, took my Colgate brush in hand applied some Pepsodent paste in it. As usual while cleaning my teeth I went around the back yard to see how the garden is and get some fresh air. Yes I live in Sub-Urban Chennai but still my parents managed to have some respectable open land where some 8 trees and many plants smile :) Looking at the dump yard or the land owned by some software engineer in US my memories flashed backwards...
Living close to pond coming across different species of fish during raining season is normal. And also coming across the distant cousin and friends of fish like turtle, snake is also common. When water over flows the capacity of pond our streets will be flooded, these guys would be pulled along with water current where they will find new home and settle down.
This freaking Green card holder who bought the land is not building any thing on it neither maintaining it. With all the lands raised with brick and cement even road raised above it obviously un-maintained land is now a dump yard and at rainy days its mini pond. This is a real breed ground for creatures abandoned by main pond(periya eri).
Among creature pulled by flood Snakes are so gifted they can stay in land comfortably and also they get high protein meal like mice and his cousins particularly when the stay is in residential area. What else eat the rodent live in its place :) wonderful warm hole half a ft below ground.
What these things gotta do with my garden? come on can't you think all these happen in open ground next to my home which is just separated from my place by a weak fence. Inside we have given enough space for them to explore and enjoy tree climbing they can climb you know!!! not just trees also walls.
I enjoy playing cricket with him.... cricket with who?? yeah snake... long back I was using this 'boost' ball to play cricket inside home at rainy days, obviously their high time! I played a simple left hand stylish straight drive the yellow fur ball bounced and went outside. I just ran behind it, that ball stopped from 20 kmph to 0 in a moment I wondered and took the ball in hand, it had a tail. Ball had a what? tail.... no its snake it thought the bouncing thing to be his 'bounty' frog :D
Another day we played hide n seek it was dark evening, I didn't notice that he saw me and came to catch I stepped over him, short tempered idiot bit me in my foot and ran away. That was the last time I played with him our relationship got completely broken when helped silly humans to kill his 3rd brother :( Now he is not willing to talk to me but still we'd see each others often. More that he get spotted by other humans he might be killed soon :(
